Cloisterfest 2009!November 9, 2009 CLOISTERFEST By Jaimeson Rice '10
The 2009-2010 academic year was kicked off in full glory the weekend of August 29th with the annual Cloisterfest. The weekend’s festivities commenced Friday night, at an impromptu Karaoke session led by our very own President Aran Clair belting out the sweet melody of Cloister Inn’s unofficial theme song, Africa by Toto. The Beirut tables were dusted off, kegs tapped, playlists updated, and Cloister's alumni, members and guests alike were set for a weekend full of fun. In addition to good ol' fashioned Cloister raging by night, a complete revamp of our backyard basketball court was undertaken. After a comprehensive trip to the Route 1 Home Depot, Cloister member’s rolled up their sleeves and dug a six-foot hole around the 450-pound concrete base of the old basketball hoop. Future Cloister member, Nick Bax '12, tethered a rope to his SUV’s trailer hitch and towed the concrete monstrosity to the most logical final resting place for our fallen hoop at the time: Cap & Gown's parking lot. The new hoop was fixed in place using 600 pounds of freshly mixed concrete, and the blacktop court was freshly painted by House Manager Bradley Werntz '10 and Apparel Chair Extraordinaire Michael Lombardi '10. The new basketball hoop will surely be enjoyed by generations of Cloister members to come. The older alums in attendance, not being up for such heavy lifting, rebuilt the supports for the volley ball court and removed the spikes from the railroad ties around the parking area that Bob Hornby '58 assured us would be the source of multiple lawsuits. Cloisterfest-goers were rewarded for their weekend of hard work with Princeton’s finest: Hoagie Haven and Papa John's for dinner and Cloister’s Prospect-Street famous Cheesey-Eggs for brunch. All in all, Cloisterfest '09 was a huge success. Thank you to all who attended.
